I love when I'm having a wild day and I find this in the room! I'm even more impressed that it is spelled correctly! I'll ignore the lack of spacing between words ;)

By now, you have probably heard of Penny. She is my roommates CrAzY dog who provides constant laughs in K1! I often write about her in my journal that I use to model writing to the kids. She loves to eat trash, throw-up, get her teeth brushed, snuggle, watch for squirrels, ride in cars, get her muddy paws all over clean white sheets (that's my fav!) and just in a nutshell-be naughty! Her best friend (and pretty much the only dog she gets along with) is Marco. Thought I would share a few of her best moments.

Bundle up for...

A VIRTUAL field trip! Yesterday we put our jackets on and took a REALLY long plane ride to the north and south poles! :) We learned about where penguins and polar bears are found. Ask your child if they know the three layers that help penguins and polar bears stay warm.

One of my favorite quote from a man who paid the ultimate price to serve others. Truly inspiring. We read Martin's Big Words last Friday and had an enlightening conversation about how we should treat others. We discussed then wrote down our dreams. Ask your child what their dream is for your family.

Safety First

As you all saw yesterday (in your child's folder) there was a bit of an abduction scare a little too close to home. These instances and "close calls" are unfortunate reminders of how important it is to inform and teach our children of STRANGER DANGER! Here are some tips from our school counselor as to what to do if a stranger approaches:

1. Step Back

2. Yell for help (“stranger danger”)

3. Run

4. If the student is walking, they can make a quick u-turn (cars can’t turn as quickly)

5. It’s not what the stranger looks like, it’s what they ask you to do (some strangers look OK)

6. Don’t be fooled by offers of candy, toys or pets

7. If they ask you to keep a secret, that is the very time to TELL

8. Trust your feelings – if something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t right

9. Tell a trusted adult immediately

Please go over these and have discusions often about what they should do. The thought of any thing bad happening to your child makes my stomach do flips, I also think I watch too much Dateline.
