The Hat

After reading The Hat by Jan Brett, we retold the story using these masks from Jan Brett's website and a few props! It was so much fun AND it helped us remember her story in sequence. Academy Awards...here we come! Ask your kindergartener if they can remember the animals from The Hat and why they were making fun of Hedgie.

Service Learning

Today we visited an assisted living home. We had so much fun singing for our grand friends! We also practiced introducing ourselves and using our "loud and proud" voice (but not a shouting voice.) They also sang the Lakeside song, Jingle Bells and We Wish You a Merry Christmas! You should be VERY proud of your Kindergartner!

Hedgie's Surprise

Today we read Hedgie's Surprise by Jan Brett. After reading the book, we created a flow map to show the sequence of the story. Your child will bring home their own flow map of this story...ask them to retell the story using their maps!

It is my favorite time of year...holidays and author studies! This month we will be kicking off our author study by reading books illustrated and written by the fabulous Jan Brett! Ask your kindergartner what book/books we read today AND something that all of her books have in common. If you have time I would encourage you to check out her books at the public library or take a look around her website.

Past and Present

Today in class we read Ox-Cart Man. We compared our lives now with the lives of families in the past. Discuss with your child how things have changed to make our lives easier.

Scarecrow Day

In honor of fall...we dressed up like scarecrows! Thank you to all the parents for the fabulous costumes and for coming out to our parade! What a great way to finish October and welcome November!

Pumpkin Math

On Friday one of our sweet mommy (thanks Mrs. H!) brought our class pumpkins! So instead of visiting the patch...the patch came to us! Check out our video!

Poetry Celebration

Since our second attempt at a Pumpkin Patch Field Trip was once again "rained-out" we got to do the next best thing...2nd Grade Poetry Celebration!! Our second grade reading buddies put on two performances of "The Pumpkin Man" and some friends recited poems. We were even treated to some snacks!
