Last week we studied magnets! They had a lot of fun exploring the room to discover all the things that are magnetic. Ask your child what something has to have in order to be magnetic...

January Super Food
Here are some fun facts about broccoli:
Broccoli is a COLD weather crop.
Broccoli comes in a variety of colors from Lime Green to Purple.
Ounce for ounce Broccoli has as much calcium as milk.
The word “broccoli” comes from the Latin word “brachia” meaning “arms”
In 2011 people in the United States ate 400 times more Broccoli than they did in 1991.
We will be having lots of broccoli this month, on Friday we will be having Broccoli Slaw so be sure to try some with BBQ Sliders.

Caring
This months citizenship quality is caring. Yesterday we visited some sweet grand friends and had a great time showing them how much we cared about them. The grand friends LOVED the cards we made them and our joyful singing. They were so appreciative of "little" visitors. You should be very proud of your very caring Kindergartner.

Holidays Around the World
Today we started our study of different holidays and traditions. We learned about how families celebrate Diwali. We discussed what they wear, how they decorate their homes and the foods they eat. Ask your child to tell you more about the "Festival of Lights".

Monday Catch-up
I hope you haven't thought "no blog posts=nothing fun is going on in K1"! Quite the opposite! We have been doing lots of fun things...
Today (and last week) in math we have been disusing measurement. Today we measured our shoes and tomorrow we'll get to measure our friends and compare.
During our "Daily 5" time we have been building up our "read to buddy" stamina, learning to take turns and discuss the books when we're done reading.
In Science we are continuing our study of fabric. Today we learned how to weave! You might be seeing these very soon...under a Christmas tree near you :)
