Redshirting Kindergarteners

I  don't know if you caught this story last night on 60 minutes:

I have heard, read and seen convincing arguments for both sides of this debate. In my opinion, I  think parents know what's best. You are with your child the most and know if they are socially and academically ready. There is not a researcher or author that knows your child better than you! ...is how old Dr. Seuss would be if he was still alive today! We learned so much about the man behind our favorite books and characters. I think their favorite activity was learning that Seuss is actually his middle name so all day long we called each other by our middle names!

Learning how to JUMP!

Yesterday the 4th Graders taught K1 how to jump rope! They were so patient and kind to our sweeties and gave some really good advise! They did so great solo that they let them jump with multiple friends. The fun never ends!

Carnival Goodies

I am so grateful for our PTO. They raise money to provide our teachers and children to have the best resources available. These are my two FAVORITE fundraisers that you can bid on at the Carnival.

This year I got the pleasure of having yogurt with these two cuties. I can't begin to tell you how nice it was to have quiet, uninterrupted conversations. I left our outing reminded why I LOVE teaching 5 and 6  year olds. Precious time!

Another item you can bid for at the carnival is teacher for a half day! I wasn't sure who was more excited...the "teacher" or the kids! He got to do EVERYTHING I do...and it was a little bit scary how much they talk exactly like I do in situations. Also, I don't think K1 has EVER sat and listened so quietly during calendar. He did such a great job, I let him be teacher for a whole day :)

I have been wanting to blog about my new found addiction for a while. If you moms (and dads) haven't discovered Pinterest yet, I suggest you look into it! It is what I like to call "a constructive time waster" :) It has an education section that I have found to be VERY useful here in K1 and there are a lot of things for parents to do at home, too! I found this article on there I wanted to share...
What Kindergarten Teachers Wish Parents Knew
I really like everything it had to say but what stuck out the most were 5 and 10 because those two things stick out the most here in the classroom. Whether it's reading a book and making connections or writing in their journal, life and play experiences are SO important to their development.

100 Days of K1

It's hard to believe we've already had 100 days of Kindergarten! We had a fun day of all things 100

We tossed a penny 100 times!

Then we read this funny story about Wolf trying to fatten up Hen. Ask you child what foods he made for her.

Then when we came back in from specials there were 100 chicks (from the book) hiding in our room! 

 Chaos ensued...

The Year of the Dragon

We had a great day celebrating Chinese New Year! Our 2nd grade friends put on a parade and we brought our dragon puppets. THEN we were all surprised with special red envelopes!
