Hats On Day 2011

Thank you so much for bringing in donations for our second annual "Hats On Day"! This year our school raised $1549.72 for Pink Hearts Fund and the Foundations For Kids with Cancer. Here's more about how Hats On Day was started http://www.childrenwithcancer.org/hod/.

iTouches

Today we had our first whole group lesson with our schools iTouches! We explored videos explaining the life cycles of a pumpkin, sunflower and apple trees. Then we compared them to each other and discussed how they were alike and different. Also...some VERY exciting and BREAKING news....K1 now how it's own iTouch to keep in our class FULL TIME!!! The learning possibilities are endless...

The Windy City

No, we're not going on a field trip there but you would think we lived in Chicago with all this WIND! Please feel free to let your kiddo bring a jacket to keep in their cubbie. It's still pretty early when we go to recess (hence the coldness) and not to mention the way the wind whips around the building makes our kids look like they're going to topple over!

Plants, plants, everywhere!!!

I hope you heard ALL about our first field trip yesterday! I was so proud of K1's beautiful manners and excellent behavior. We were paired with a "tree expert" who told us all about deciduous trees (trees that drop their leaves) and evergreens. Ask your Kindergartners if they remember the difference.

Safety First

Today we had a very fun visit from the Fire Clowns!! They talked to us about when to call 911, what to do in a fire and water safety. Please be sure your child knows their address in case of an emergency.

First field trip pictures coming soon... :)

Earphones

Thank you so much for sending in earphones for your kiddo. They have LOVED getting the chance to use the iPods this week during our Daily 5 "Listen to Reading" time. If you have not sent a pair in...you still have time!

Apples, apples everywhere!

Thank you for sending in an apple with your child this week! We did so many fun things with them...we compared, graphed, measured, wrote about, drew, and tasted them!
