Dino sneak peek...

I don't want to give too much away before Thursday night :)

Before we started our big dinosaur unit we started with making circle maps with everything they already know about dinos!

Listening to some non-fiction books about dinos!

2D Shapes

Here are the Texas Standards for learning 2D shapes:
(6) Geometry and measurement. The student applies mathematical process standards to analyze attributes of two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional solids to develop generalizations about their properties. The student is expected to: (A) identify two-dimensional shapes, including circles, triangles, rectangles, and squares as special rectangles;(D) identify attributes of two-dimensional shapes using informal and formal geometric language interchangeably; (E) classify and sort a variety of regular and irregular two- and three-dimensional figures regardless of orientation or size; and (F) create two-dimensional shapes using a variety of materials and drawings

It's not uncommon for K1 to already know the names of the 2D shapes. Since many learners come in with the recall of shapes I try to give a deeper understanding with the shapes. This is one of my favorite activities to challenge K1. You can see they are trying to figure out how many sqyares they need to fill the circle. It usually takes about 10 minutes and lots of effort for them to realize....it can't be done!

I learned this fun "whole body" shape making from a training earlier this year. They LOVED it!

Valentine's Day Party PIctures

These were just TOO adorable not to share! Thanks to our FABULOUS room mom for thinking of this GREAT idea and taking this amazing shots. I still smile so big when I see this sweet faces.

Dental Health Month

February is pediatric dental health month! We celebrated by having our annual visit from a local dentist's team of dental hygienists. They shared some very important information like:
-brush your teeth twice a day
-floss one time a day
-visit the dentist twice a year
-stay away from bad or sugary foods

Here they are taking the "smile guard" oath to promise to try to do all the four things mentioned above
