Welcome to K1!

I'm so excited to see you all tonight at "Meet the Teacher"! Don't forget to bring your school supplies and if you purchased them through our fabulous PTO they will be here in the classroom waiting for you! If you did not purchase your supplies through the PTO you will need to purchase a red Lakeside folder tonight for $5.00. There will be a chance for you to sign-up for your child's "Beginning of Year" assessment time. Remember Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday your child will be dismissed at 11:50 OR they have the option to stay here at school with supervision of our support staff until regular dismissal time. You will only need to sign-up for one assessment time if you are picking your child up at 11:50. You will also have a chance to sign-up to be a room mom or a room mom helper :). Lastly, we have an optional "Home Visit" for tomorrow, Friday, August 22, in the afternoon. Can't wait to meet all my new K1 friends! Looking forward to another GREAT year!

Summer Time Apps for iPad

I have found a few good apps to help your child spelling, counting and making books over the summer!

Rocket Speller this app is great for learning to spell and figuring out which letter comes first-middle-last. This app has different levels of difficulty

Chicktionary this spelling app allows them to make as many words as they can with a given set of letters

Wings this math app helps them to recognize groups of numbers and "fly" to the side with more. Bonus-have them shout it out as they fly through "8 is greater than 5"!

Find the Words who doesn't love a good word search challenge. Great for kids of all ages ;)

Scribble Press this app allows them to create their very own book with fun illustrations and words!

Great parent (and teacher) blog post

"But adversity is a part of life, and only by facing it can our children build life-coping skills they'll need down the road."

As the years go pass and I interact and get to know parents...the more I see these things happen. I found this to be a great read as an educator as well. It's a little lengthy but well worth the read!
